Yao to make NBA history
font size

Houston rockets All-star center Yao Ming, have been playing exceptionally well, averaging 26.7 PPG and 12.3 RPG since the All-star break. You could have been shocked by these great digits, but there is something more shocking you may have omitted, which uncovers that Yaoming is a real marvel.

87% from the free throw line in the last month, 84.6% this season, incredible numbers in NBA history. Let me put that in perspective, a couple of days ago, Steve Nash leaded the League with 0.924 FT%, without doubt, the best in the NBA, but he's a point guard. Chauncey Billups, Ray Allen have also once been the leaders in free throw shooting, but NOT a guy 7-6 foot! I am not to say that Yao is going to lead the League in free throw shooting, but 87% over the last month is hovering around the neighbourhood of the elite, the best free throw shooters in the NBA.

You always talk about the big men, and they go up there clanging free throws. You think of Shaq, you think of Wilt, the horrible releases on end, trying to get 50%. And here is Yao Ming, a 7-6 foot, but 87% over the last month.

Yao Ming is a marvel, please marvel him.
