The Democratic People's Republic of Korea(DPRK) on Thursday accused South Korea of intruding in its territorial waters, saying it will beat back such a "sea intrusion any moment", said a unnamed spokesman for the Navy Command of the Korean People's Army (KPA).
"The number of cases of such open intrusion by the South Korean navy reached more than 120 entering this year," said the spokesman in a statement carried by the official Korean Central News Agency.
The DPRK said the latest intrusion happened on June 3 and at least 10 South Korean warships entered the territorial waters of the north side, southeast of Ssanggyo-ri, Kangryong County, before leaving the next day.
"The present reality clearly proves that the South Korean navy authorities are oblivious of the past lessons from two sea skirmishes", said the spokesman.
The navies of the two sides had two clashes in 1999 and 2002 around the Northern Limit Line (NLL) in the west sea (the Yellow Sea), which resulted in heavy casualties on both sides.
"We have our own means and ways to beat back such (a) sea intrusion (at) any moment," said the spokesman, adding that the DPRK navy "will deal a telling blow to any warship intruding into the inviolable territorial waters of the north side without warning".
The western sea border was not clearly demarcated when the Korean War ended in 1953. The American-led U.N. Command unilaterally delineated the Northern Limit Line (NLL), but the DPRK has never recognized it.
