An international conference on women 's health and education will open at shore of the Dead Sea in Jordan on Sunday.
The three-day event, titled "Mobilizing for Action", is aimed to seek the most effective ways to turn the tide on maternal and newborn mortality and ensure that girls everywhere have access to education.
According to President of Children's Defense Fund Marian Wright Edelman, the conference will focus on how to help three countries which suffer these problems most to overcome their obstacles. But she refused to specify the three countries.
Edelman said that every minute a mother dies from childbirth in the world, while every hour 60 newborn babies die from mostly preventable causes, and every three seconds a child under five dies.
The girl's education is also a big problem around the world, Edelman said, noting that 55 percent of more than 100 million children who are unable to go to school are girls.
She hoped that the conference would establish an innovation fund to finance those programs aiming to help women and children to throw off the two problems.
