Dirk Nowitzki collected 26 points and 16 rebounds to lead Dallas Mavericks for a 99-85 victory over Miami Heat in NBA finals Sunday night.
With the win, Mavericks led the final 2-0.
The Mavericks double-teamed Heat's Shaquille O'Neal and it worked well. The three-time NBA Finals Most Valuable Player had his worst playoff career game, scoring just five points on two-of-five shooting, and missed six of seven free throws in 28 frustrated minutes of play.
Jerry Stackhouse provided the lift off the bench with 19 points, including the final 10 of the half for Dallas, which led 50-34 at the break and stayed in front the rest of the game. Game One Hero Jason Terry added 16 and nine assists.
Dwyane Wade led Miami with 23 points, and Antoine Walker had 20.
Miami heads home to the next three games when the best-of-seven series resumes Tuesday night. Though the Heat owns an 8-1 playoff record at American Airlines Arena, they face a tough task. Only two teams have overcome an 0-2 deficit to win the NBA finals, Portland rallied to beat Philadelphia in 1977 and Boston beat the Los Angeles Lakers in 1969.
