World Child Labor Day observed in Bangladesh

A roundtable was held here Monday to observe the World Child Labor Day calling for elimination of child labor.

The roundtable was told over 13 million child labor of the age group of 5-17 are engaged in work in Bangladesh, of them 1.3 million children were engaged in risky jobs.

Speakers at the roundtable urged the government to formulate a policy to eliminate child labor from this South Asian nation of 140 million population within a time frame.

About 49 percent of the people in Bangladesh live on less than one U.S. dollar a day.
