Panamanian President Martin Torrijos signed a decree outlawing the worst child labor abuses in the country on Monday, which marked the United Nations' anti-child labor day.
Torrijos said the decree ratifies the International Labor Organization's Convention 182, which lists the jobs forbidden to be carried out by children.
The decree also announced the minimum education, health and recreation rights children are allowed to enjoy.
Official figures showed that about 57,000 five to 17-year-old children in Panama were hired, whose education, health and recreation had been affected.
