Nepali Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Girija Rasa Koirala Wednesday said that he was confident that the talks being held with the guerrilla will resolve existing problem.

Directing party workers at a gathering held at his residence in hometown Biratnagar, some 400 km east of Kathmandu, Koirala said, "we are now entering a new phase, this phase is very important for us and we need to work and conduct ourselves in a very responsible manner."

Stating that efforts will now concentrate on accelerating the dialogue process ahead, Koirala said the government has a big responsibility for this and will move ahead in a conscious manner, also considering the views of the guerrilla in regard to the talks.

Koirala said peace, stability, complete democracy, independent and developed Nepal was the basis of the talks held with the guerrilla and others.

"The country is presently in a state of uncertainty, everyone is worried over which direction the country would take", Koirala said, adding that the nation's history should continue, as it is this history that will maintain the identity of Nepal and the Nepalis.

Koirala said the seven political parties, the guerrilla and the king, too, are presently under the democratic umbrella of the Nepali Congress. The international community and friendly countries have provided support to strengthen this umbrella, he said.

Koirala arrived in Biratnagar on Tuesday. This is his first visit to his hometown after he became prime minister.
