Cholera death toll climbs over 1,700 in Angola
font size

At least 1,727 people died of cholera in Angola, out of 45,133 cases confirmed countrywide, since the outbreak was declared this February, local media reported on Tuesday.

The report quoted Deputy Minister of Health Jose Van-Dunem as saying, the Angolan capital of Luanda used to report 500 cases per day, but the number now has dropped to 50 cases.

The official attributed the drop to an awareness campaign being carried out by the Health Ministry.

China on Wednesday donated Angola 200,000 U.S. dollars to help fight the illness, noted the sources.
