font size

A singe-seat aircraft crashed Friday at a small airport west of Ottawa, Canada's capital.

The plane, a BD-5 jet, reportedly caught fire as it hit the ground at the Carp Airport at 12:14 p.m. (local time), Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reported.

There was no immediate confirmation of injuries, but police said the pilot of the plane was believed to have died in the crash. The plane was scheduled to perform at Air Show Ottawa this weekend.

The BD-5, nicknamed the "Silver Bullet," is often described as the world's smallest jet.

The reason of the crash is still unknown.
