Ecuador players to get US$150,000 for World Cup qualification

The 23 players of Ecuador's national soccer squad will receive 150,000 U.S. dollars each because they have earned the nation in place in the second round of soccer's World Cup, Quito-based daily Ultimas Noticias reported on Friday.

If the team managed by Colombian-born Luis Fernando Suarez managed to draw or beat Germany each member will receive a further 50,000 U.S. dollars, the newspaper said.

Although the Ecuadorian Football Federation has not yet commented on the newspaper reporter, the newspaper went on to say that the players would receive a minimum of 30,000 U.S. dollars per game, but would earn bonuses if their performance proves particularly impressive.

Some of the players are already receiving investment advice because of the sudden windfall, the newspaper said.
