England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson confirmed on Sunday that Wayne Rooney will start for their World Cup Group B match against Sweden on Tuesday.
Rooney, 20, has not started a match after he suffered a broken toe in a Premier match against Chelsea on April 29.
In England's World Cup opener against Trinidad and Tobago in Cologne, Rooney came on as a second half substitute before England scored a 2-0 victory.
Eriksson told British television: "With our medical staff we've discussed it and they and I think he (Rooney) can play more than 45 minutes.
"And, if he can play more than 45, it is better that he starts the game rather than coming on."
"It's very important for us because he is a fantastic player."
