Cuba's grandmaster Leinier Dominguez, the national champion, will compete in the China Against the World chess championship, which runs from July 10 to 24 in China.

Dominguez, who is rated 60 in the world, with a 2,647 coefficient under the Elo rating system used by chess authorities, will lead a team of six Cuban chess players, who will battle a similar Chinese team.

In Turin's Chess Olympiad, Dominguez won eight of 12 points available, and added 11 points to rating: a statistical system used to rate players of two-player games invented by Hungarian chess master Arpad Elo in the early 20th century.

Other participants for the Chinese contest include a team lead by world number 29 Dmitry Jakobenko, with an Elo score of 2,675; alongside Huguary's Zoltan Almasi, Elo 2,675; and Georgia's Baadur Jobava, Elo 2,646.

China is expected to send its Olympic team into battle: grandmaster Bu Xiangzhi, 2,640; Zhang Zhong, 2,640; Zhang Penxiang, 2,623; Wang Yue, 2,598; Ni Hua, 2,607; and Zao Jun, 2,525.

The Chinese contest will use a two-round Cheveningen system, which matches each member of the team with every member of the rival team.
