US President George W Bush defended his policy on the infamous Guantanamo military prison on Wednesday in Vienna, describing the inmates held there without trial as "cold-blooded killers" who were too dangerous to be released.
When asked about the sensitive issue at the closing press conference of the EU-US summit in Vienna, Bush said he understood European "concerns" about the prison but added that some of the 460 inmates were very dangerous, and some of them "will murder somebody if they are let out on the street."
He went on to say that he would "like to end Guantanamo," however, some of the inmates in the jail first "need to be tried in US courts."
According to Bush, most of the prisoners are from Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Afghanistan.
Before the EU-US summit, the European Parliament adopted a resolution, pressing EU leaders to raise the Guantanamo issue at this summit.
