Ronaldo becomes Brazil's top World Cup scorer with 14th goal
font size

Ronaldo Nazario became Brazil's top World Cup goal-scorer on Thursday, when he scored Brazil's two goals during the team's 4-1 rout of Japan in a Group F match; his 13th and 14th in the competition.

He also equaled the record set by Germany's Gerd Muller, who until Thursday held the World Cup goal scoring record alone.

The player scored four goals in the 1998 France World Cup and eight in the 2002 Japan and South Korea World Cup.

Thursday's goals put Ronaldo ahead of Pele, Edson Arantes do Nascimiento, generally believed to be Brazil's greatest player, who has scored 12 goals.

If Ronaldo scores one more goal, he will become the World Cup's top goal scorer.
