Two Vietnamese-American people sentenced for drug trafficking

Two Vietnamese-American people received a 20-year imprisonment sentence each for the charge of trafficking 3,800 lab-made drug pills, local newspaper Young People reported Friday.

The People's Court of southern Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday passed the sentences on the people who bought the drug abroad and then resold in Vietnam.

Besides the two persons, four local people in the drug trafficking ring, which was detected last August, were given jail terms of 8-15 years for the same charge.

The number of drug addicts in Vietnam surged 56.8 percent to 158,428 in 2005 from 101,036 in 2000, a recent national conference was told. The country has targeted to become a drug-free country by 2015.
