font size

Zhou Yongkang, state councilor and director of the National Narcotic Control Committee, called for more efforts to mobilize people to take part in the current anti-drug war, so as to realize the goal for the country's three-year anti-drug program.

The official urged local officials in charge of the matter to study recent instructions on the issue by President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao. Nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and volunteers should be encouraged to join in the anti-drug efforts, he said.

Zhou, who is member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said so Monday while meeting with a group of people who have been elected "2005 Top 10 Non-governmental Anti-drug Persons".

The official praised the "Top 10" for their outstanding contribution to the people's war against narcotic through enhancing awareness about narcotic among the public or helping addicts to give up drugs.

Zhou attributed their deeds to the good ethics of the Chinese nation and the lofty sense of social responsibility.
