Vietnam to strengthen foreign relations, administrative reform: president

Newly-elected State President of Vietnam, Nguyen Minh Triet, on Tuesday stressed the importance of fostering international ties, and accelerating administrative and judicial reforms, Vietnam News Agency reported.

The diplomacy in the coming time will have to serve the country 's political duties, especially in such major fields as economy, security, national defense, science and technology, and culture and society, the agency quoted Triet as saying after he took office on Tuesday morning.

"Key tasks are keeping peaceful environment, creating favorable international conditions, and protecting national independence and sovereignty, helping successfully realize the cause of national industrialization and modernization," he said.

Triet said he would focus on taking care of external and internal affairs, ensuring security, and building stronger national great solidarity.

In addition, Vietnam needs to accelerate its judicial and administrative reforms in the open and transparent direction, he said. Triet pledged to build the socialist law-governed state of people and for people, orienting to the goals of rich people, powerful country, and fair, democratic and civilized society.

On Tuesday morning, 94.12 percent of Vietnamese lawmakers voted for Triet, member of the Political Bureau under the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and secretary of the Party Committee of southern Ho Chi Minh City.

On Monday, Vietnam's top legislature officially approved the resignation of outgoing state president Tran Duc Luong due to age factor.
