font size

A senior official of the Iraqi customs was shot dead along with his driver by unknown gunmen in western Baghdad on Wednesday, a police source said.

"Unidentified armed men opened fire at the car of Dhiyaa Abdul Hameed, deputy director general of the Iraqi customs, at about 9: 00 a.m. (0500 GMT) in Baghdad's western district of Ameriyah," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Insurgents frequently attack government officials, accusing them of collaborating with the U.S. occupation forces.
