South Korea's new national football team coach Pim Verbeek announced Wednesday that South Korea has set the champion of the Asian Cup in 2007 as target.

"It is our target to win the Asian Cup in 2007 as well as the Asian Games in December," Verbeek told a news conference for his inauguration as coach.

The 50-year-old Dutchman said he will use the Paju National Football Training center to prepare for the upcoming preliminaries of Asian Cup and decide his coaching staff through negotiation with the Korean Football Association by August.

"I will be also involved and responsible for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games," he said.

"Though the 2002 World Cup is still in our hearts, on our way to 2010, it's very important to create a team that can reach the last 16 in the 2010 World Cup," the Dutchman said.

"Players, fans and everybody can make mistakes and we have to analyze and improve to make it better next time," he said. "It is perfect situation to develop and make a new team for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa."

According to the Yonhap news, Verbeek will go to Germany on Wednesday to watch World Cup matches and come back in mid-July.
