Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met in Hong Kong Wednesday with Macao Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau Wah.

During the meeting, Jia spoke highly of the work of Edmund Ho and the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) government.

Briefed by Edmund Ho on the latest development of Macao, Jia reiterated that the central government would continue to fully support Edmund Ho and the Macao SAR government to govern by law.

Jia also expected the Macao SAR government and people from all walks of life in Macao to seize the opportunities and keep forging ahead so as to meet up with the expectations set by Chinese President Hu Jintao during his visit to Macao in December 2004, on the occasion marking the 5th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland.

Liao Hui, vice chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC and director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council was present at the meeting.

Jia arrived in Hong Kong Tuesday morning for a three-day visit. He is scheduled to attend a forum commemorating the 3rd anniversary of the signing of the Chinese mainland/Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement on Thursday.
