Indonesia was preparing for the execution of three radical Muslims sentenced to death for their implication in the Bali bombings in 2002 that killed 202 people, but the time and place could not be exposed, the Bali Attorney- General's office said on Thursday.
"We are preparing for the execution. The Attorney General's office in a region is making the preparation on it," Wayan Pasek Suartha, the Bali Attorney-General's office spokesman, told Xinhua by telephone.
"The place and the time can not be publicized for security reasons," he added.
The three men, Amrozi, Imam Samudra and Ali Gufron, were convicted by the Bali court two years ago of playing leading roles in the night club explosion in October 2002 in the island.
Wayan said that his office had received the licence from the ministry of justice and human rights for not conducting the execution in Denpasar, the capital of Bali province, the place where the three were convicted.
Under the Indonesian law, death row convicts are executed in the place where they are tried.
According to local reports, the Attorney-General's office has sought permission to shift the execution site from Bali to the prison island of Nusakambangan in Central Java province, where the three were transferred last year after public anger grew over their bloody crime.
"But because there is a request from Denpasar, it can not be carried out here, because of the reason of security," said Wayan.
