CPPCC chairman Jia Qinglin winds up HK visit

Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), left for Beijing Thursday afternoon after finishing his three-day visit to Hong Kong.

At the invitation of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government, Jia arrived in Hong Kong on Tuesday morning to attend activities marking the third anniversary of the signing of the Chinese mainland/Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement.

Jia told reporters at the airport that through his visit to Hong Kong this time, he had experienced himself the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong, bewared of the vitality of the principles of "One Country, Two Systems."

"As an international financial, trade and shipping center, Hong Kong will march towards new resplendence as a Pearl of the Orient of the great motherland," he said, adding that such progress is hard-won and deserves to be cherished.

Jia hoped all walks of Hong Kong community will continue to work together to maintain the current good situation.

He stressed that the central government will continue to support the HKSAR government and the great motherland will always be there to uphold the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong.

Jia thanked again HKSAR Chief Executive Donald Tsang for his invitation and warm welcome. He also thanked the media for covering his visit all the way.

During his three-day visit, Jia met with Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang and Macao Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau Hah, speaking highly of them and the work of the two special administration region governments.

Jia also met with principal officials of the HKSAR government and representatives from all walks of life in Hong Kong, visited Hong Kong Monetary Authority, the Wetland Park, Cyberport and an ordinary teacher's family.

Before leaving Hong Kong, Jia delivered a keynote speech at the opening of the Forum on Economic and Trade Cooperation and Development between the Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong and Macao and visited Hong Kong Stock Exchange and Clearing Limited Thursday morning. He also visited Hong Kong International Airport before his departure.
