Newly-elected state president of Vietnam, Nguyen Minh Triet, said Thursday afternoon his country will broaden and deepen bilateral relations with China.
"We (Triet and Chinese president Hu Jintao) will discuss measures to develop the bilateral ties so that they become closer and closer," Triet told reporters after the 9th session of the 11th National Assembly of Vietnam, the country's top legislature, concluded.
"I will have the honor to meet heads of states attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit (to be held in Hanoi capital in November), including Chinese president Hu Jintao and U.S. president George W. Bush," Triet said, adding that Vietnam will also develop bilateral ties with the United States for "joint development."
During the visit by Chinese president and general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China Hu Jintao to Vietnam in 2005, leaders of the two countries vowed to adopt more effective measures to intensify bilateral exchanges and cooperation in the fields of politics, economy, foreign affairs, defense, culture and education.
The leaders also agreed to promote their economic and trade ties on the basis of reciprocity and in a win-win manner, and join hands to promote a balanced trade in a positive and pragmatic spirit.
