European Union (EU) foreign policy chief Javier Solana has expressed his condolences to the death of four Russian diplomats in Iraq, the EU Council said on Thursday.
"Following the announcement of the death of four Russian diplomats in Iraq, Javier Solana yesterday sent a letter of condolences to the Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Mr Sergey Lavrov," said a press release issued by the EU council.
According to the press release, Solana expressed in the letter his "most heartfelt condolences to you, to the Russian Government and to the entire population of the Russian Federation, especially the families of the victims. My thoughts are with you at this difficult time."
"I condemn in the strongest possible terms the senseless brutality and violence of the perpetrators of this barbaric act, and call for all those responsible to be brought to justice for their despicable crimes," Solana said in the letter.
