It's not an revenge against England, said Figo

Portugal superstar Luis Figo does not look his team's World Cup quarter-final encounter with England on Saturday as an revenge and insists they must win to crown their career.

"For us it's not about revenge, that is more for England after the last European Championships, " Figo said.

Scolari's team emerged triumphant in 2004 in another quarter-final but only on penalties after Wayne Rooney had limped off with a broken metatarsal and Figo himself had been substituted.

Figo said, "Every game could be my last. I'm not eternal. We have made fantastic progress. Our first objective is to win against England. We cannot think about being champions if we don't beat England."

Figo, the first Portugal's 33-year-old captain, knows his side must find a way to beat England once more in the World Cup quarter-final in Gelsenkirchen on Saturday.

"We respect England. They have a very good team. These kind of games are decided by small things. It is most important to concentrate and not do so many mistakes." the captain said.

And he insisted the spirit in this Portugal side was highlighted by that 1-0 victory against Netherlands.

"We are showing a great mentality in this competition. We have got to beat England in all ways. They have a great mentality but we have to be better than that mentality if we want to win," Figo said.

He added, "All the games are difficult. We have to be together and be as strong as possible to get a good result."

Of England captain David Beckham, who is a former team-mate at Real Madrid, Figo said, "He's a good friend of mine. I spent time with him and I respect him as a player. He always gives his best for the team."
