World Bank mission in Kenya over governance reforms

A mission from the World Bank is currently in Kenya discussing the government's reforms on governance and the fight against corruption, a senior official said on Friday.

Kenya's Finance Minister Amos Kimunya said the mission would review and document the crucial ongoing and planned work in governance and anti-corruption work undertaken by the east African nation through programs, which have involved a cross-section of Kenyans.

"We expect that by the end of the mission, Kenya's progress in the area of governance will have been documented from a factual, independent and objective position," Kimunya said in a statement.

He said the mission led by Daniel Kaufmann, director of Global Governance at the World Bank Institute, also include a small team of local and international experts on governance and anti- corruption.

"Besides the discussions with government officials, the mission will have meetings with other stakeholders including key representatives of the private sector, parliament, civil society, academic, media, faith-based organizations and development partners," the statement said.
