Unknown gunmen kidnapped the undersecretary of the Iraqi Mineral and Industry Ministry on Sunday, an Interior Ministry source told Xinhua.

"Unidentified armed men in seven white sport utility vehicles ( SUVs) arrived at the Iraqi Ministry of Mineral and Industry and kidnapped the ministry's undersecretary shortly after 9:00 a.m. ( 0500 GMT)," the source said on condition of anonymity.

The SUVs are usually used by the Iraqi Interior Ministry forces, the source said, adding that no further details are available at the moment.
