Thousands of Indonesian demonstrators protest Israeli action against Palestine

Thousands of people in the Indonesian capital staged a demonstration in front of the U.S. embassy on Sunday, protesting the offensive of Israeli military that had destroyed infrastructure in Palestine.

The protestors were mostly Indonesian Prosperous Justice Party's (PKS) activists and sympathizers.

The demonstrators blamed the Israeli attack and urged the United States and the United Nations to put more pressure on Tel Aviv to stop violence. A big banner saying "Solidarity for Palestinian struggle" was carried by some PKS activists during the street rally.

The demonstration was also used to collect more funds for Palestinian government, which is currently facing a severe suffering because of embargo imposed by the United States and its allies, the demonstrators said. Each demonstrators during the rally was urged to donate 1 U.S. dollar.

Tens of anti-riot police deployed to the location of the demonstration along with two water canon vehicles. The demonstration which started at 10:00 a.m. local time was orderly and peaceful.

The Indonesian government and parliament have strongly condemned the arbitrary Israeli action and demand that Tel Aviv immediately release the Palestinian officials, including some ministers and legislators, it arrested recently.
