A U.S. marine was killed on Monday in clashes with insurgents in western Iraq while a U.S. soldier was killed by a roadside bomb north of Baghdad a day earlier.
"A marine assigned to Regimental Combat Team 5 died due to enemy action while operating in Al-Anbar province today," the military said.
"A Multi-National Division - Baghdad soldier died at approximately 7:20 p.m. on July 2 when his vehicle was hit by an explosion during a combat patrol north of Baghdad," the military said in another statement.
The latest deaths brought to about 2,530 the number of U.S. military personnel killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003.
