The World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed on Monday a five-year Indonesian boy, who died on June 16, was infected by bird flu, Indonesian health ministry said.

Director at the Ministry Nyoman Kandun told Xinhua that the boy was from East Java province and had contacts with fowls.

"The result from Hon Kong (affiliated laboratory) is positive," he said.

The death has brought the total of the fatalities from the avian influenza to 41 out of 52 cases in the country.

Experts fear that the highly pathogenic H5N1 mutation can change the property of the virus that can make it more transmittable, which can transmit among humans that can kill million of people.
