HK halts poultry, bird meet imports from South African
font size

Imports of poultry and ostrich meat from South Africa to Hong Kong have been suspended with immediate effect, Hong Kong Center for Food Safety said Wednesday.

The decision was made following confirmation of an outbreak of avian influenza in an ostrich farm there. The center is seeking further information on the case.

Hong Kong has imported 9.5 tons of frozen ostrich meat from South Africa since November 2005.
