Indonesia's local test indicated that a three-year-old girl died of bird flu this week, Health Ministry official Nyoman Kandun told Xinhua.

"Local test shows that she is positive of bird flu," said Kandun.

The girl, who was from Tanggerang city on the outskirts of Jakarta, had contacted with fowls, said the official.

The World Health Organization has confirmed 40 death out of 52 people contracted by the highly pathogenic H5N1 virus.
