The Japanese Defense Agency decided on Saturday to carry out the deployment plan of the missile defense system ahead of the initial schedule, Tokyo News reported on Sunday.
The decision came after the Democratic People's Republic of Korea test fired missiles on Wednesday.
The defense agency has made up its mind to establish the ground-based Patriot Advanced Capability-3 missile interceptors right now, the report said.
The agency had formerly planned to start the process of the missile defense build-up in March 2007 and conclude deployment of all the missile shield in 2011.
In 1998, Japan decided to take part in cooperation with the United States on missile defense and exempted arms exports related to the project from its weapons export ban, or the "three principles on arms exports," in 2004, so as to enable the sale of missile defense components to the United States.
The Japanese Cabinet decided to promote its cooperative research with the United States on the missile defense system to "joint development" phase in December 2005.
