US astronauts complete 2nd spacewalk
font size

Two astronauts of Discovery's crew finished the second spacewalk on Monday afternoon, completing both major objectives of the excursion, NASA said.

During the 6-hour, 47-minute spacewalk, mission specialists Piers Sellers and Mike Fossum replaced a cable reel assembly on the International Space Station's mobile transporter, clearing the way for future station assembly, NASA said.

The orbital duo also installed a spare thermal control system pump on to the outside of the Quest Airlock.

While the shuttle crew focused on the spacewalk, the Expedition 13 crew concentrated on loading the Leonardo multi-purpose logistics module with scientific experiment results, unneeded items and trash from the station.

Tuesday will be a light day for the Discovery crew, as they continue transferring supplies and equipment to the orbital outpost.
