The Uganda Kick Boxing Association (UKBA) is to send a team to the East African Kick Boxing Championship slated for August 22 in Addis Ababa.
Eddie Gombya, general secretary of the UKBA, said the Ethiopian federation was impressed with Uganda's performance at the recent regional championship held in Nairobi, Kenya in which Ugandans won six gold medals.
"They weren't present in Kenya but Uganda's ability to win an event involving strong states like Canada persuaded them to invite us," said Gombya.
Ethiopia Kick Boxing Federation, the organizers of the event, has promised to cater for the team's accommodation, internal transport and feeding. Ethiopian Airways has also promised to offer reduced prices on the return tickets to the team.
Some of the boxers expected to make the Ethiopian trip include Buruhan Ssemwogere (bantam) John Tumukunde (fly), Kojja Kataserwa (light), Richard Lule (feather), Shaban Andam (light) and Moses Golola (middle).
Meanwhile, the Ugandan Kick Boxing league finals are scheduled to take place this Sunday at Lugogo Indoor Stadium in Kampala.
