The Indonesian police said Friday it has formed a firing squad tasked with executing three militants in death row for their major roles in October 2002 nightclubs bombings on Bali island that killed 202 people.

The inmates -- Imam Samudera, Amrozi and his brother Ali Ghufron -- will likely be executed in Central Java province where they are now serving detention, but the date of the execution has not been specified.

Central Java police chief Dody Sumantyawan said the squad members are already in training "for their skill and mental strength."

"There is no decision yet over when and where the execution will take place," he was quoted by the Detikcom news website as saying.

"Whenever we are called for the duty, we are ready because it is mandated by the law and we must follow the order," he said.

More than 30 militants have been jailed in connections with the attacks.

The three bombers were convicted in 2003 for the attacks and initially detained in a Bali prison.

They were removed to the Nusa Kambangan prison island in Central Java following violent protests by Bali residents demanding their execution days after triple suicide bombings again rocked the island in October last year, killing 21 people.
