Chinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong outlined proposals for enhancing ties with Spain during talks with Spanish Crown Prince Felipe de Borbon y Grecia in Beijing on Friday.

Zeng said China appreciated the efforts of Spain's Royal Family in promoting bilateral ties.

The two countries had successfully cooperated since establishing a strategic partnership last year, he said, listing four aspects that the two countries could work to expand bilateral ties:

-- Maintaining high-level visits and exchanges between governments, parliaments, political parties and local governments.

-- Expanding trade exchanges, with greater reciprocal investment.

-- Improving exchanges and cooperation in culture, education and tourism.

-- And enhancing communication and coordination in international and regional issues.

Felipe said Spain appreciated China's achievements in the process of reform and was glad to see China playing a more important role in international affairs.

He said the Cervantes Institute opened in Beijing Friday symbolized the friendship between the two countries.

Spain adhered to the one-China policy and would work to improve relations between China and Europe.

The Crown Prince is on an official visit at the invitation of Zeng.

Spanish investment in China has grown five-fold over the last five years to hit 197 million U.S. dollars in 2005. More than 400 Spanish enterprises are operating in China.
