Brazil condemns killing of Brazilian citizens in Israeli attacks on Lebanon
font size

Brazil's government on Tuesday repeated its condemnation of Israel's attacks on Lebanon, following the death of an eight-year-old Brazilian boy.

"Brazil reiterates its condemnation of the Israeli government's disproportionate military reprisals, which have caused the loss of innocent life and damaged the Lebanese infrastructure, with long-term consequences for the civilian population," Brazil's Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

The boy, whose name was Bassel Tormo, died earlier that day in an air strike on Tallousa, south of Lebanon, where he was on holiday with his family in a relative's house. The family came from Foz do Iguacu, a town in the south of Brazil.

Israeli bombing had also killed a Brazilian businessman Rodrigo Aiman, 34, the previous day.

Also on Tuesday, an air force plane, sent by the Brazilian government, evacuated its citizens, including some diplomatic staff and tourists to Brazil.

On July 13, four Brazilians from the same family, two of them children, died in Sifra, another city in the south of the country.

The ministry stated that Brazil supported diplomatic intervention in the conflict, especially through the UN High level Mission.
