Chinese peacekeepers in Lebanon "safe and sound": FM
font size

All Chinese peacekeepers in Lebanon are "safe and sound", a Chinese foreign ministry spokesman said on Thursday.

"The Chinese government and the Central Military Commission have been highly concerned about the safety of the Chinese peacekeepers in Lebanon since July 12," Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said.

By now, all Chinese peacekeepers are safe and healthy, with sufficient living provisions, the spokesman said.

Israel has intensified its air raids on Lebanese targets since launching a massive assault on July 12 when Lebanon's Hezbollah guerillas kidnapped two Israeli soldiers and killed eight in cross-border attacks.

Chinese peacekeeping operations in Lebanon include engineers, staff officers and military observers.
