Pakistan continued its diplomatic efforts on the Lebanon crisis on Sunday and President General Pervez Musharraf had a telephone conversation with King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia to discuss the crisis, state-run APP reported.
The two leaders shared their deep concern over the situation and agreed on a political initiative by the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC).
They further agreed on the need for contacts between the OIC and other world leaders for effective international action to bring the crisis to an immediate end.
They also expressed sympathy and solidarity with people of Lebanon who were facing extreme hardships and suffering.
Earlier, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinijad had spoke to Musharraf and discussed the grave situation in Lebanon. The two leaders exchanged views on the role of the OIC to help people of Lebanon.
Musharraf stated that Pakistan supported collective initiative by OIC.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz had another telephone conversation with Prime Minister of Lebanon Fouad Siniora who informed him about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Lebanon.
Aziz assured him that Pakistan would dispatch relief supplies as soon as the corridor for relief assistance was opened.
Pakistani Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said, "In our continuing contacts with the leadership of the Muslim world, the Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz also spoke to Secretary General of OIC Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu."
