The volunteer recruitment for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games will be launched in coming August, and will continue through to April 2008. Approximately 100,000 volunteers are needed for the Olympics, 70,000 for the Summer Games and 30,000 for the Special Games.
The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) will recruit volunteers in two ways. One is open and any interested person can make a submission online. The other is targeted recruitment and the process began half way through last year.
The majority of volunteers will be college students in Beijing, but some will come from middle schools. The committee aims to have representatives from every province, municipality and Autonomous Region. It will recruit volunteers from the Five Olympic cities outside of Beijing: Shanghai, Qingdao, Shenyang, Qinhuangdao, and Tianjin, as well as residents of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Overseas Chinese, foreign students studying in Beijing, international volunteers, and professionals may also apply.
