Malaysian PM condemns Israeli attack killing 4 UN observers in Lebanon
font size

Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi Thursday condemned Israeli atrocities in Lebanon, describing as "very painful" the death of four UN observers in Israeli attack at the Lebanon border.

"Anyone will be angry over what has happened," said the prime minister when commenting on the death of the observers from China, Austria, Canada and Finland in Wednesday's Israeli attack against Hezbollah's positions at the Lebanon border.

He told local reporters that Israelis bombed the area as though they did not know the presence of the UN observers there.

"Maybe they know but was ordered to bomb towards the direction, " he said.

Following the bombings, UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan had demanded Israel immediately investigate the incident which he regarded as "deliberately targeting" the UN post in southern Lebanon.

The 2,000 UN observers were stationed there to monitor Israeli and Hezbollah activities.
