Three Kuwaiti cargo container trailers carrying four pickup trucks and 290 power generators arrived in Syria on Friday on their way to Lebanon.
Abdulrahman al-Own, head of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society ( KRCS) Team in Syria, told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the donation of power generators was aimed to ease the electricity shortage in Lebanon which is under intense Israeli bombardments. The pickup trucks were a gift from the KRCS to the Syrian Red Crescent in order to help transfer Lebanese citizens who fled to Syria, he added.
Kuwait has already sent four batches of humanitarian aid-- a total of 770 tons of food and medicine and medical equipment-- to Lebanon since Israel started the massive onslaught over two weeks ago, said al-Own.
The KRCS has also planned to send 10 tons of medicine to Lebanon via Syria in the coming days, he added.
Meanwhile, president of the KRCS, Barjes al-Barjes, announced on Friday that the society had offered 250,000 U.S. dollars to the Lebanese Red Cross to assist the organization in performing relief work, according to KUNA.
Lebanon said that about 600 Lebanese civilians had been killed in the 17 days of the conflict and that aid was difficult to reach south Lebanon due to Israeli air raids, warning of a looming humanitarian crisis.
Violence erupted in Lebanon on July 12 when Hezbollah guerillas captured two Israeli soldiers and killed eight during cross-border attacks and Israel responded by launching a massive assault.
