At least two Palestinians were wounded in an Israeli airstrike on the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Hanoun on early Sunday, Palestinian witnesses and security sources said.

Israeli warplanes fired at least one missile into a house of a member of the Palestinian leftist Popular Resistance Committees in Beit Hanoun, said the witnesses, adding that at least two people were wounded.

A short while ago, an Israeli military aircraft fired a missile into a house of a member of the Palestinian ruling Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in northern Gaza City. The house was destroyed but no one was hurt.

The Israeli army confirmed the air raid which it said targeted a Hamas stronghold.

About 20 houses across the Gaza Strip have been hit by Israeli airstrikes in the past few days, Palestinian security sources said.

On Saturday night, Israeli forces killed two members of the Islamic Jihad (Holy War), including a senior commander of the group, in the West Bank city of Nablus.

Israel has kept up an over-one-month-old massive air and ground offensive in the Gaza Strip since June 28, three days after three Palestinian militant groups including Hamas' armed wing killed two Israeli soldiers and kidnapped a third during a cross-border raid.

Over 160 Palestinians have been killed and hundreds more wounded in the violence.
