font size

The Indonesian government plans to produce typical bird flu vaccine designed for Indonesian people as death toll has leveled the world's highest, the health minister said Monday.

"The H5N1 vaccine must be specially designed to Indonesian people, the vaccine must be produced ourselves," Minister Siti Fadilah Sapari was quoted by the Tempo online news service as saying.

The production process of the special vaccine is underway, she said without elaborating.

Since the virus outbreak was confirmed two years ago, bird flu has claimed 42 lives in Indonesia to equal Vietnam as the world's highest bird flu death toll.
