font size

Three people including an army officer and a police officer were shot dead in three insurgent attacks in north of Baghdad on Monday, police said.

Unknown gunmen shot dead police Lieutenant Colonel Abdul Salam Kamel in northern Iraqi town of Samarra, some 120 km north of Baghdad, said a police source from Tikrit, the capital of Salahudin province.

In another incident, an Iraqi army officer was killed when gunmen showered him with bullets in his house in the volatile Duluiyah town, 100 km north of Baghdad, said the source.

Separately, a construction worker in downtown of Tikrit, some 170 km north of Baghdad, was killed in a drive-by shooting, the source added without elaboration.

Violence and insurgency have been unabated in the Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.
