Israeli warplanes strike Hezbollah area in Lebanon
font size

Israeli warplanes bombarded a garrison of Hezbollah guerrillas in northeastern Lebanon early Tuesday and hit the road leading to Syria, Lebanese police said.

The jet fighters fired several missiles at the village of Hermel, some 15 km from the Syrian border. The road linking the region to neighboring Syria was particularly targeted in the attack.

It was still unknown what was hit or whether anyone was injured, said the police.

Another strike hit an area about 10 km north of Hermel, targeting one of four official crossing points between Lebanon and Syria.

The latest attack occurred despite a 48-hour Israeli suspension of air raid on Lebanon.

On Sunday, an Israeli air strike killed 56 people in the southern Lebanese village of Qana, more than half of whom were children.
