Iranian FM calls for end to Israeli offensive against Lebanon

Visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki on Tuesday called for an end to Israeli offensives against Lebanon.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Seniora, Mottaki said that "we think that it would be possible to reach a solution to stop the Israeli aggression, if any ceasefire plans and terms are divided into two parts."

"The first part includes an end to the aggression or any item on which consensus is reached," Mottaki said, adding that any differences could be removed through negotiations afterward.

Mottaki arrived here on Monday after a visit to Syria.

On July 12, Israel launched attacks on Lebanese Hezbollah after the Shiite group abducted two Israeli soldiers in a cross-border raid.

Israel accuses Iran and Syria of being behind Hezbollah, but Iran and Syria reject the accusation.
