U.S. Marine killed in western Iraq

A U.S. Marine died in "non-combat action" in the volatile Anbar province in western Iraq on Saturday, the U.S. military said in a brief statement.

The name of the soldier is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, the statement said.

More than 2,580 U.S. military personnel have been killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003.
