Japan loses to Poland in world men's volleyball league

Japan battled back from two sets down, but missed four match points to lose to Poland on Saturday in Pool A of the men's volleyball World League.

The Poles won the match 25-19, 30-28, 21-25, 18-25, 22-20, converting on their own fourth match point in a final-set tiebreaker at Funabashi municipal gymnasium in Funabashi, Japan, and improved their win-loss record to 4-3, while Japan fell to 1-6.

Poland ace Sebastian Swiderski scored a team-high 21 points, followed by Mariusz Wlazly's 18. Yusuke Ishijima came up with a game-high 27 points for Japan. Yu Koshikawa was next with 21.

In Pool A, Serbia and Montenegro leads with a 5-2 record and the United States is 4-3. The World League competition features 16 teams divided into four groups in the first round.
